St. Robert Bellarmine (1542–1621) was a Jesuit priest, cardinal, and theologian renowned for defending the Catholic Church against the Protestant Reformation through his writings and influential catechism. A celebrated scholar, he served as a professor, papal advisor, and Archbishop of Capua. He is known for his wisdom, deep faith, and moderation, and was canonized and named a Doctor of the Church for his significant contributions to Catholic theology.
The seven sacraments of the Catholic Church are sacred rituals instituted by Jesus Christ to impart divine grace and guide the faithful through key moments of life. Baptism cleanses original sin and welcomes one into the Church. Confirmation strengthens the baptized with the Holy Spirit for a mature faith. The Eucharist nourishes spiritual life through the Body and Blood of Christ. Penance (or Reconciliation) offers forgiveness for sins through confession. Anointing of the Sick provides grace and comfort to those seriously ill or dying. Holy Orders ordains men as bishops, priests, or deacons to serve the Church. Matrimony unites a couple in a sacred, lifelong bond reflecting Christ’s love. Together, these sacraments foster spiritual growth and communion with God.
Basilica Days are days in which a person by visiting the Basilica, in addition to all the other requirements, can receive a Plenary Indulgence.
On these days, after Mass, there is usually a Eucharistic Procession, and a gathering in the Church hall. For more information, check the bulletin.
