RCIA Adapted for Children

This program is designed for children of catechetical age who have never been baptized, or who have been baptized, but not catechized, nor have received the other Sacraments of full initiation (Confirmation and Eucharist). The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults has its roots in the ancient Church; however, one of the directives of Vatican Council II was to restore the Catechumenate -- the ancient rites and process of adult faith formation. Our parish CCD program will be following the guidelines of The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (adapted for children), as approved by the Diocese of Las Cruces, in order to improve the faith formation process for our children here at San Albino Parish.

These students will be attending their age-appropriate CCD classes as well as receiving additional instruction throughout the process, as is fitting to their personal faith formation. Active attendance and parental involvement will be required. New life in Christ is a gradual journey. The key rites of acceptance, election, and initiation will be celebrated throughout the liturgical year; typically culminating in the children being baptized or fully received into the Church at the Easter Vigil Mass. It is important to remember that this process may often take more than one or two years.

The entire Christian community is responsible for the initiation of its newest disciples. It is our duty as Catholics baptized and catechized in our faith to support and pray for these young people. For more information or to register your child in this program, please contact the Director of Religious Education, Julia Ruiz.
