  Grade 4
CCD Children

Theme:

Jesus invites us to live as he did by living a life characterized by love and obedience to God and in the service of others. The Commandments and the Beatitudes are positive ways to enrich our lives and the lives of those around us. The child begins to make conscience decisions to follow Jesus.

Objective:

To help the child make conscious decisions to follow the teachings of Jesus and to develop an understanding of basic Christian morality.

Prayers:

Should know all prayers learned in Pre-Kinder - 3rd Grade plus these new prayers:

  • Act of Faith

  • Holy, Holy, Holy

  • Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Goals:

  • We have been created in God’s image and we possess the ability to make choices.

  • Learning to choose good over evil is a life-long process.

  • When we sin, we are disobeying God and God’s laws.

  • There are two types of sin: “grave” or “serious” sin (traditionally called “mortal”) and less serious sin (traditionally called “venial”).

  • God made a covenant with this people on how to live.

  • God gave his chosen people the Decalogue (Ten Commandments) as a guide by which to live.

  • Jesus told us of God’s plan in the Sermon on the Mount and demonstrated the Christian life-style in the Beatitudes.

  • We can live according to God’s prescribed plan for us by regularly performing the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy.
